The YouTube Talent Agency

I’ve always thought it would be a good idea to start a YouTube talent agency/recording label.

Sure, there’s a lot of crap on YouTube but there’s also some amazing undiscovered talent. I’m sure the music studios have already thought of this but then again if you have people like Doug Morris, CEO of Universal Music Group, running the show they probably are just starting to hear about YouTube.

I can hear the boardroom conversation right now:

“I hear this Internet is the real deal”
“I heard they’ve got videos on it too now”
“I saw someone use the world wide web on their phone”
“Get the hell outta town”
“Well, let’s get our ducks in a row and exponentially fill the market with this bad boy”

Sadly, that’s probably really how the conversation went. Check out this article on Doug Morris in Wired just to see how clueless he is.

But I digress. Back to the talent.

Here are two awesome videos that would make a YouTube Talent Agency/Label a big hit:

  1. Kind of related to this post. Check out this article that Godin wrote on why the music industry is f’ed up.

He’s also starting his own record label.

On a side note, I wonder how easy it would be to to start up your own record label, now with all of the low-cost production and promotional alternative availble to you. I mean, if all the self-made hip hop artists used to sell CDs out of the back of their cars to make it back in the day, it’s got to be easier and cheaper now.
