In a few hours it will be Valentine’s day. A gazillion over-priced flowers will be delivered tomorrow. Sappy poems in Hallmark cards will be written and couples will be smitten.

And really, it’s not about February 14th. It’s all about February 15th.

Aww, that’s so sweet. You’re probably thinking that I am going to write how every day is Valentine’s Day.

Pfft. Yah right.

It’s really about February 15th because of all the stories that are told on this day.

Lisa: “G’Morning Debb”
Debb: “Hey Lisa..oh hey how was your night”
Lisa: “Blahh…u?”
Debb: “That good eh…OMG you won’t believe what Tim did for me…blah blah blah and there were unicorns and oompa loompas and then blah blah blah”
Lisa: “OMG, hey Shanaynay you gotta here what Tim did for Lisa”

Next thing you know the entire office has surrounded Debb as she shares every little detail (umm okay maybe not every detail) of her Valentine’s Day and how wonderful Tim is.

The point is that everyone likes feeling special and being able to tell a great story is what makes it priceless. That same exact story is then repeated to co-workers, friends, family and even strangers on the bus.

It doesn’t really matter if you believe in Valentine’s day or not. If you don’t just make sure Debb has some good stories to tell, “oh we don’t celebrate Valentine’s day that’s because instead we set aside our money to take a big trip every year and this year we’re going to…” Whatever. You get the point.

Debb without a story and having to listen to everyone else, now that’s gonna be a problem. Don’t say I never warned you.

So, go ahead and do whatever it is you do today, just make sure you have some great stories to tell on Feb 15.
